Foxes Lair October Highlights
In average seasons early October has a wonderful show of wildflowers. September flowering orchids and other wildflowers are finishing and being replaced by white banjine, blue leschenaultia, triggerplants, later flowering everlastings, and common popflowers. Orchids vary according to spring rain but include rattlebeak, dragon, scented sun, leopard, and Brookton variety cowslip orchids. Please do not pick the wildflowers?
October is the main month for triggerplants. Check out the lovely triggerplant on the Banksia walk and see how many other species you can find.
• The Claypit is FULL. Have a great picnic there and do the claypit challenge.
• Check out the great new shady arboretum picnic spot and grab a selfie on morning tea rock.
• Trails on gravelly soils, have an exceptional range of flowers. Don't miss flame peas in early October and woolly-flowered Jacksonia epiphyllum in late October to early November on entry track gravels
• The Valley trail is cool and beautiful with flowering pink holly-leaved mirbelia and triggerplants.
• In mid/late October the great view from the Breakaway trail is complemented by purple woolly dampiera and yellow common popflowers.
•Scented sun orchids are scattered throughout Foxes Lair in early October. If there has been a wet spring look for leopard orchids on the Claypit
