Foxes Lair November Highlights
• The orchid season and mass flower display has almost finished, but some October flowering species may be hanging on if we have had a wet spring, particularly the triggerplants.
• The western part of the Banksia Trail, and the flat spot north of the Claypit (look for Leopard Orchids in early November in good seasons) will have the greatest number of wildflowers.
• Blue Dampiera eriocephala and yellow Common Popflower on the Breakaway Walk.
• The Valley Loop tends to be cooler in the daytime with wildflowers persisting longer
• Enjoy the wildflowers on a leisurely ride on cycle trails. Take care as these trails are also for walkers.
• The tracks are great for a walk or cycle in the early morning and evening. There is a good chance of seeing kangaroos at this time.
• Check out flowering mallees at the Arboretum.
• Bobtail skinks and monitor lizards (also called racehorse goannas) come out as the day warms up. Snakes are rarely seen and are not a threat unless you go into the bush looking for them. Be sure to keep dogs on a leash to stop them chasing wildlife and disturbing snakes.
• It is a nice spot to have breakfast or take dinner and watch the sun go down. Kids particularly like the Claypit and the Arboretum picnic area (climbing rock, bush cubby and tree swing).
