Finding Orchids in Narrogin District

The aim of this page is to help visitors to find and photograph (NOT pick) the most accessable and attractive orchids in this district.
An interesting but often frustrating feature is that they often occur in scattered spots, or even just one plant. I attribute this to their association with mycorrhizal fungi. Some orchids will only pair with one species of fungus. Each orchid produces hundreds of minute seeds, which need to germinate in a suitable spot then very quickly, find a suitable fungus  to survive. Orchid distribution is often scattered because the chances of both occurring are very low. For this reason, it is extremely difficult to rear our orchids from seed or by transplanting.
